What to see in Lanzarote in a week?

Try to remember what you listened about the island of Lanzarote. Sure you have been told about the lunar landscapes, that is nothing more than the image left by the volcanic activity in the area. A place with such impressive scenarios that will make your imagination fly.

But you won’t find just arid areas and black sand. There are charming beaches, crystal clear waters, incredible natural landscapes left by the eruptions and much more. Lanzarote is also a quiet place despite being one of the most visited place in Canary Islands. It’s the perfect place where  enjoy relax and spend a family vacation.

Not being such a big place, you will not need much time to explore it and to see  the most emblematic places. Seven days will be enough to visit all the places you want to see. You can organize tours in the morning and during the afternoon relax at one of the wonderful beaches.

In this post we will tell you what you can do during a week in Lanzarote. We will talk about the most representative places on the island, so you can start to organize your itinerary.

  1. Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park is part of the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve.  It is the main attraction of the island and you can not coming back home without visiting it. You can travel by bus or attend the famous camel ride.

The park  is marked  by the traces left by the eruptions. The last one  took place in 1824 and the longest lasted 6 years.

The park is known also as Fire Mountains and there is still volcanic activity that you will have the chance to see trough the jets of steam that come out of the geysers when you pour water into the underground holes. Another experiment that the guides usually do is to put dry shrubs in shallow holes, and in this way you can see the spontaneous combustion .

During the tour  you can see the lava formations while listening to the history of the park. When you get off the bus, you will feel the heat that comes out of the ground under your feet.

Eating by the restaurant El Diablo is another experience to enjoy in the park. You will see how they prepare food using only the heat emanated from the interior of the earth.

  1. Volcanoes Natural Park

It is located next to Timanfaya and has an area of 10,158 hectares. You do not have to pay entrance, so you can include it in your list of places to visit in Lanzarote for free.

Within this park there are different routes that you can cross. You can get details by  the visitor center. The place is also a special protected area for birds (ZEPA).

  1. Jameos del Agua

Enjoy how nature and art mix in the Jameos del Agua. A special and curious place where the artist César Manrique left his mark .

You will find a volcanic tunnel with water inside. In the water you will see albino crabs, an endemic species of Lanzarote. If you go on a Saturday you can also enjoy  Timple’s concerts.

  1. Cuevas de los Verdes

Another must-see during your week in Lanzarote. It is a volcanic tunnel very closed to the Jameos del Agua. Inside the cave you will see the formations left by the eruptions of the Volcan  Corona.

The guided tour has a duration of about 50 minutes. Part of this cave is underground and it reaches the sea. This sector is known as  Tunnel of Atlantis and it is full of legends.

4. Villa de Teguise

If you like to travel around the villages, this is one that must be included in your itinerary 7 days Lanzarote. If possible, leave this visit for Sunday because that day  there is a big famous market where  you can buy crafts and enjoy the food, in addition to the good atmosphere.

Near Teguise you will find one of the most famous beaches on the island, Playa de Famara, which attracts surfers and lovers of water sports.

  1. Mirador del Río

From Órzola, take the road to the north and you will find spectacular views. Taking advantage of the landscape, César Manrique built another of his architectural works, the Mirador del Río, which is located on the top of the Famara cliff.

Without a doubt, from there you will have the best views of the island. You can pay the entrance and access the cafeteria of the viewpoint or,you can also walk a little more and enjoy the view without having to pay. La Graciosa Island can be seen right in front of this viewpoint.

  1. Cactus Garden

    jardin de cactusAnother alternative to see in Lanzarote in 7 days is this garden, an other creation of the artist Manrique. It is located in Guatiza and it has a collection of 450 different species of cactus, with more than 4,500 plants of this type.It is worth including the visit to this place in your excursions in Lanzarote in order to see what was the last intervention of Manrique.

    1. La Graciosa

    There is much to see in Lanzarote and surroundings. Among the activities that you should not miss is visiting the island La Graciosa. Half an hour it takes the ferry to cross the distance between Órzola and the port of La Graciosa.

    Once on the small island you can walk it or rent a bike in the village, which is next to the port. Among the attractions of the island we should mention  its crystal clear waters. Las Conchas beach is among the most beautiful you’ll see on your trip. You can also overnight at La Graciosa, but it’s better to  plan in advance do to the  scarce number of accomodations.

    1. Laguna Verde and Los Hervideros

    The Hervideros are cliffs from where you will see how the sea breaks over the walls and caves. These are also the product of volcanic eruptions in the area.

    The Green Lagoon or Charco de los Clicos, as it is also known, is a small lake that impresses with the green color of the water. The tonality is due to the amount of sulfur it contains and an alga found in the water.

    1. Volcano El Cuervo

    If you want to live the experience of entering the crater of a volcano, start planning a trip to Lanzarote.   Volcano el Cuervo is located between La Geria and Timanfaya. Actually, it’s a simple walk:  from the road you take a path that goes to the volcano that has a height of 388 meters.
