Plan your trip to the archipelago
Any time of the year is a good time to visit the Canary Islands. This Spanish Archipelago is located off Africa’s west coast, about 60 miles (96.56 km) from Morocco, and benefits from its weather.
We could say it’s spring all year long in the Canary Islands, with few rainy days. So you can enjoy all their magical spots any time you want. If you are trying to escape winter or looking for a different place to visit in summer, this is the place to go.
In the islands, there are activities for everyone in the family. You can spend one week in the Canary Islands and visit the main attractions. Volcanic landscapes, black and white sand beaches, forests, some of the most incredible diving destinations, unique flora and fauna species, and more.
There are seven islands in the archipelago: Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Gomerra, La Palma, Fuerteventura and El Hierro. All of them have something to show you, so think carefully when you plan your trip.
Think about your priorities and what places you would like to see, then choose your destination.
Do you want to try some world-class wine, connect with nature, surf, skydiving, and admire the traditional architecture of the islands? Then, book some excursions in Lanzarote. Each of these islands has something to offer to visitors. It’s a colourful place waiting for you.
Don’t forget to take sunscreen with you. Also, bring comfortable clothes and sport shoes. There are many places for hiking.
6 reasons why you should visit the Canary Islands
We all wish it would be easier to decide a holiday destination, and appreciate all the help we can get. And that’s what we are trying to do for you. This is a wonderful destination, and here we present the reasons why you should visit the Canary Islands.
Diversity of landscapes
There is a lot to see and enjoy in the Canary Islands. Each one has something unique to offer you. The volcanic landscapes in Lanzarote, the submerged mountain of El Hierro, the Dunas de Corralejo on Fuerteventura, the laurel forests in La Gomera, or the Mount Teide in Tenerife, which is the tallest mountain in Spain.
And there is more. Four islands, including Lanzarote, are a Natural Reserve of the Biosphere. And there are several National Parks to visit.
The beaches have nothing to envy the Caribbean ones. There are many options just to relax or get a nice tan. But also, to practice your favourite water sports. Some of these beaches are the popular spots for surfers all over the world.
And if you’ve never seen a black-sand beach, here you’ll find a few.
Great weather all year long
One of the main reasons for visiting the Canary Islands is its weather. Here you’ll enjoy the sun all year long. But it’s not too hot thanks to the wind blowing from the northeast.
You can go to the islands all year long, but the best months are May, June, September, and October. This is because during summer and Christmas times, the islands are packed with tourists.
On the other hand, January and February are the coolest months. This means the temperature drops a little; for example, in Lanzarote it is about 19 and 22 degrees.
Practice your favourite sports
Are you into outdoor and adventure sports? If you are, that is another reason to visit the Canary Islands. Because of the climate, it is possible to practice sports all year long. And this is one of the favourite destinations for athletes.
If you like surf or kite surf, go to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, these are a top destination for aquatic sports athletes, professional or amateur. There are also places to climb, kayaking and windsurfing in the rest of the archipelago.
Of course, there are routes for hiking and trail running too. And one of the favourite sports to practice all around the Canary Islands is cycling. The best part is the wonderful scenes you’ll enjoy while practising any of these activities.
Try world-class wines
Have you heard about the vineyards in the Canary Islands? These islands produce amazing wines, and they are affordable. You can buy a bottle for less than a dollar at the grocery store.
But this is not about the price, but the quality of the wine. Just in Tenerife, there are more than 70 wine cellars.
And in Lanzarote, with their volcanic landscapes, there are also several vineyards. Visiting them should be on your ‘to-do list’, because it is worth it.
You need to visit La Geria, in Lanzarote island. Here, you will witness the unique technique used by locals to create white wines of international recognition in a land as dry as this. Take a few hours to visit them and try some wines. Of course, you can buy some bottles, but you can save money if you buy them at the grocery store.
Privileged cultural scene
The Canary Islands also have a rich cultural scene and sightseeing. A sample of it is the Carnival of Las Palmas, held in Gran Canaria. This colourful celebration has been declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
Also, these islands have a recognizable architecture, with constructions of white walls and blue carpentry.
There are also artists who left their marks on these islands. For example, César Manrique, who was based in Lanzarote, and there are samples of his work all over the island.
The main characteristic of his work was to mix art and architecture with nature. His works also pay homage to the traditions of Lanzarote.
Néstor Martín Fernández is another artist, whose works can enjoy at Gran Canaria’s Museo Néstor Álamo.
Take a break and relax
There are plenty of activities to do and sights to see in the Canary Islands, but if you just want to relax, then do it. Take a break from work, go to the beach and enjoy the food. If you are looking for an active nightlife, there are several options to choose from.
Are these reasons why you should visit the Canary Islands enough? Go there and discover some more.
