House museum César Manrique
This house is located in the north of the island, in the town of Haría, where the traditional life of Lanzarote is stilled well conserved. This house museum is in honor of the important artist César Manrique.
This artist and sculptor is from the island of Lanzarote. In the village of Haría he was able to appreciate the wonderful nature and he decided to move there and begin with the reforms of an old farmhouse that he himself acquired in the 70’s .
When the artist started with the reforms, the house was almost in ruins. Manrique tried to give to the house a traditional but also a modern architecture at the same time because he considered it a sample of comfort and aesthetics.
Manrique lived there until 1992 and in 2013 when he died the house has been opened to the public as a house museum. Entering to the house is like entering in a piece of history of Lanzarote. You can appreciate each room and observe the atelier where the painter worked during the years.
By visiting the César Manrique house museum and reaching the courtyards, you will have access to a large number of belongings and utensils to which the painter gave much more aesthetic value. No doubt he had a particular taste that impregnated everything.
One of the best things that can be appreciated in this site is the vegetation, which is kept very careful and its precious atelier. There you can find work tables, easels and unfinished paintings. House museum Palacio Spínola
This house museum conserves a long history of the island of Lanzarote. It was built between 1730 and 1780 by José Feo Peraza and was previously occupied by the well-known Inquisitors.
It is located in Teguise in front of Plaza Constitución. It became one of the most important buildings in the entire island when it was occupied by the son of the original builder: José Feo de Armas, who excelled in politics.
Then it was occupied by Víctor Pio de la Concepción Feo Bethencour, who was the Governor of Lanzarote at that time. In 1895 Adelina Feo, the owner of the palace married Ángel Spínola Cando and since this moment the last name started to appear in the history of the house.
The house passed from generation to generation and from owner to owner, until it reached the hands of the Union Unión de Explosivos Rio Tinto S.A. They decided in 1974 to restore the palace and its architecture.
The reforms were carried out by the architect Fernando Higueras and decorations by José Domínguez del Río, the latter under the influence of the artist and sculptor Cesar Manrique. In 1984 the City Council of Teguise bought the Palace to turn it into a house museum.
It has only one floor, however it is quite big. It has typical features of Teguise’s architecture as the stone frames, the steps of black stones and the doors as well.
You can find a chapel, a kitchen, galleries, two patios, a barn and the rooms. No doubt this house museum has a lot of history on its walls.

It is impossible to enter in his office and imagine all the works he wrote there. Pieces of contemporary literature. In this place you can see personal photos, pictures of writers that he really admired and the copy of the Nobel Prize he received.
